A call to 062 alerted the Guardia Civil that a woman was allegedly being held against her will at a home in Beniel.
The suspect, who had several active judicial and police warrants, had failed to return to prison after temporary leave.
He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of unlawful detention in the context of gender-based violence and breach of sentence.
Murcia, May 26, 2026 — The Guardia Civil in the Region of Murcia, working in coordination with Beniel Local Police, has arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with a suspected case of gender-based violence.
The suspect was wanted under six active judicial and police notices and had also failed to return to the prison where he is serving a sentence after being granted temporary leave.
The operation began when the Guardia Civil’s operational command centre received a report that a woman was allegedly being held against her will at a property in Beniel.
Following the public tip-off, officers activated the “zero protocol”, a procedure used to act ex officio in suspected gender-based violence cases when the victim has not yet filed a formal complaint.
Initial inquiries indicated that the suspect could be a well-known repeat offender. Investigators confirmed that he had not returned to prison after temporary leave and that four arrest-and-imprisonment orders issued by courts in Orihuela, Alicante, were also in force against him.
Given the suspect’s alleged dangerousness, his history of fleeing and previous confrontations with police, the Guardia Civil prepared a special approach operation in coordination with Beniel Local Police.
Officers entered the property by surprise and restrained the suspect, preventing any possible escape or aggression toward the victim.
The 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of unlawful detention in the context of gender-based violence, as well as breach of sentence for being a fugitive from justice.
