The Civil Guard is investigating an incident on Calle Moriones in Torrevieja in which two men were seriously injured with a knife following an apparent dispute during the handover of house keys. One of the men was found inside a property, while the other was located in a nearby bar. Both were taken to Torrevieja University Hospital, where they remain in a serious condition.
The Judicial Police of the Civil Guard in Torrevieja have opened an investigation into the knife attack, which took place on Monday morning in the town centre. According to Civil Guard sources, the injured men are aged 57 and 61.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Calle Moriones, close to its junction with Calle Antonio Machado, a central and usually busy area of Torrevieja.
Several Civil Guard and Local Police patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene. Officers established a security perimeter and cordoned off the area to allow emergency services to intervene safely.
The Generalitat’s Emergency Coordination Centre reported on Tuesday that it had received a call requesting assistance for two people with stab wounds. A SAMU emergency medical unit and two Basic Life Support ambulances were sent to the scene.
The SAMU medical team treated the two injured men, who were then transported by ambulance to the Emergency Department of Torrevieja University Hospital. Although the Emergency Coordination Centre initially described their injuries as minor, the Civil Guard later stated that both men had suffered serious injuries.
It is understood that one of the victims, who sustained the more severe stab wounds, reportedly required emergency surgery.
Once at the hospital, both men involved in the incident were placed under police custody to ensure their availability to investigators and to allow officers to take statements once their medical condition permits.
According to information obtained by this newspaper, the altercation began inside a private residence on Calle Moriones. One of the injured men was found inside the home, while the second was located in a nearby café on the same street. Investigators are examining whether this indicates an attempted escape or movement after the initial attack.
The same sources suggest that one of those involved has a professional connection with one of the real estate agencies operating on the same street.
Local Police officers, followed by the Civil Guard, began taking witness statements and working to reconstruct the sequence of events. However, few details have so far emerged regarding the exact circumstances of the attack, the motive, or the prior relationship between the two men.
The investigation remains open under the supervision of the duty magistrate at the Palace of Justice, located next to the main Civil Guard station and around 200 metres from the scene of the incident.
Both men involved are Spanish nationals.
