On Saturday morning, the Three Wise Men—Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar—made their first stop in Orihuela at the Vega Baja Hospital. Accompanied by Orihuela’s Councilor for Festivities, Rocío Ortuño, and Councilor for Health, Irene Celdrán, they delivered gifts to the children who are patients in the hospital.
Councilor Ortuño highlighted the significance of the visit: “The Wise Men come from afar, but they wouldn’t miss their traditional visit to the hospital before preparing for tomorrow’s grand parade. It’s a very special and important time for them, and for us, it’s an honour to accompany them here today, and be with them tomorrow during the official reception and parade.”
The Wise Men were warmly welcomed by the hospital staff, including Laura Párraga, the Deputy Director of Nursing, and Olaya Bernabé, the Assistant in Midwifery and Obstetrics. Both expressed gratitude, stating, “We are thankful that their first stop is once again at Vega Baja Hospital. Their kindness and thoughtfulness bring joy to the children, especially those spending the holidays in the hospital.”
After the reception, the Three Kings visited various wards, including Paediatrics, Neonatology, and Mental Health. The Wise Men expressed their commitment to this tradition: “It’s essential to visit the hospital and ensure the children here continue to believe in the magic of Christmas. This stop is always our priority, even though tomorrow is a long day and night of hard work.”
