Not fazed by historic facts like his own party, the PP, were in power nationally for the best part of a decade from 2011 and did nothing, not the fact that it is his own town hall who were originally responsible for the situation we find ourselves in, the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has asked the current Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Pedro Sanchez Government, who has actually started the action to fix the problem, to speed up the administrative procedures so that, once and for all, the works to widen the N-332 through Torrevieja can be put out to tender as soon as possible.
Somewhat out of character that Dolón is aware of a problem outside the town centre, he says that the current situation of this road is totally unsustainable and becomes even more so during the summer.
The mayor does acknowledge that the PSOE-led government has announced plans to fix the problem, when in November 2023 the General Subdirectorate of Environmental Assessment, dependent on the Ministry of Ecological Transition, informed the Council that the public consultation of the environmental assessment procedure for the Project to Duplicate the N-332 Variant as it passes through Torrevieja had been initiated.
Much like procedures outstanding in Torrevieja itself, such as the implementation of the mandatory low emissions zone, nothing has been heard of the progress made to unblock this situation, which is dragging on for ever.
Eduardo Dolón states that there have been several official requests made by the Torrevieja Council to hold a meeting with the heads of the State Secretariat for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, in which the Minister of Infrastructure of the Generalitat Valenciana would also be present together with the Autonomous Secretary of this Ministry, to jointly address (Ministry and Generalitat) the intersection with the CV-905, dependent on the Ministry of Infrastructure, to double the entrance section from the existing service station and the roundabout at the entrance to the city.
Finally, the mayor also reminds us that there is no actual further delay as he recalls that in May of this year he met in Alicante with the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, who announced that the works to widen the N-332 as it passes through Torrevieja would be put out to tender next year in 2025.
The current complaint from Dolón actually apparently being that his requests for meetings have been ignored, rather than a delay in the process which, as he himself admits, is still, finally, on schedule thanks to his political opponents being in government.
