The Elche National Police has taken apart an important distribution hub in Guardamar where high end counterfeit watches are offered to dealers. In the operation, 3,560 fake watches were seized and a man and a woman aged 43 and 36, both of Moroccan nationality, were arrested.
The watches are all high-quality watches, copies of prestigious brands, such as Rolex. The detainees were accused of a crime against industrial property but were provisionally released after testifying at police stations.
The police investigation was launched as a result of an operation carried out recently in Murcia. Following information received from Crevillent Local Police, Guardia agents subsequently arrested nine people and seized counterfeit products with a market value of around ten million euros.
The watches were offered to street vendors or local market traders who operate around the area as ‘Looky Looky’ men.
The investigators were able to intercept and arrest the main figure under investigation as he was leaving his home in Guardamar del Segura .
At that time, 79 counterfeit high-end watches of different brands were seized and a search was then carried out at the detainee’s home where officers seized nearly 4,000 more fake watches. The man’s partner was also arrested as an accomplice in the same crime.
