COUNTRY BOWLS CLUB with Jo Richardson
Country Bowls welcomed Greenlands club on Wednesday this week in the VCL.
Spirits were high with Country Bowls fielding a good few new players in their first game in this league.
Brenda Jiggins and Peter Dix both claimed victory in the ladies and gents singles, while the rinks, trips and pairs went down to a strong Greenlands contingent. Scores were 4 – 8 to Greenlands.
Country Bowls have launched their summer programme and are welcoming over 50 people on Friday nights, many of whom are new to bowling, which is an excellent result for the sport as a whole.

This week’s only league match was the Harrier league fixture for the Buckskins at Montemar against their Torro. Alas on the day the Buckskins had a tough match and came away with just the one rink, but sometimes the opposition is just a little too strong for you, such is life! As long as the company is good, you have a good time.
Dolly Ford, Pam Harris and Brian Harris 12-21. Lesley Day, Marion Haynes and Dave Haynes 7-28. Ann Abbott, Bob Day and Richard Lee 13-10. David Wright, Graham Day and Keith Longshaw 7-23. Tony Abbott, Ann Taylor and Jim Taylor 12-20. Janet Wright, Peter Blackburn and Stew Hamill 9-19.

Horadada Bowls Club by Irene Graham
On Monday we were at home to Greenlands Gladiators and with more than a dozen regular team members not available for this match, we knew it would be hard to take on Greenlands Gladiators, and so it proved to be the case as they were too good for us on the day, and ran out worthy winners.
Having said that, we can only heap praise on their replacements for their excellent efforts, which at one stage during the match looked like we could achieve an improbable win.
Special praise goes to Tracy Paffett and Ken Barber, both new to the club and who, at short notice, made their league debuts so that we would not have to concede points. A couple of others defied injuries that should have prevented them playing to give us the eighteen players required.
The match was extremely competitive in spite of the eventual 11 points to 3 defeat, with several matches see-sawing back and forth. As an example, the last match to finish looked all over after 16 ends, with Horadada ahead by ten shots, but back came Greenlands with a three and a seven to snatch a draw at the death!
Congratulations to our winning trips, John Goddard, Alan Miller and Roy Thompson 23 -12, and to our ‘nearly winners’, Irene Graham, Ron Odell and John Bailey 21 – 21.
Greenlands won by 4 rinks to 1, with one drawn and by 111 shots to 92, so well done to Dave and his team.
The next match was Wednesday in the VCL league and this time we were away to San Miguel. The result was much of the same with San Miguel winning 3 rinks and the overall shots gaining 8 points to Horadadas 4. Again thanks to Tracey Parffett and Ken Barber for standing in in our hour of need.
Our winning disciplines were:
Ladies Singles – Margaret Odell 21 – 15. A bit of toing and froing throughout the match but Margaret managed to pull ahead in the last ends. Well done.
Pairs – Roy Thomson and Barry Evans. 16 – 15. A very close match indeed and a few finger nails less, our Guys managed to win by that all important 1 shot. Well played.
The shots were 78 for and 93 against.
After this week’s results we have dropped to 3rd place in the Hurricane Division with 51 points behind La Marina Pilots who also have 51 points and we play them away next! The VCL League the results are not in for this week at time of writing but it looks as though we might be struggling to hold 3rd place. All to play for next week team. Keep em bowls a rollin’!
The 12 members of Horadada BC who were playing in the El Cid Aussie Pairs Tournament did the club proud with the standard of play and results achieved. A huge deserved well done to Jack and Carol Linehan for reaching the semi finals.
Horadada offers a warm welcome to new or experienced bowlers, and provides the necessary equipment. Our roll-up days for this friendly club are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings. Please contact Fred Trigwell on 659 139 129 for more information.

Monday 11th June – Monte Mar Torros v El Rancho Buckskins
We had a stressful hour before the start of the match, as we had to find three replacements bowlers as a result of three different mishaps to team members. When we got underway on a lovely sunny morning we had a great mornings bowling. While the Torros had an important win to keep them top of the league, the Buckskins played there part in an excellent match. The Torros won on five rinks, so well done to everyone for a great performance.
Shots Torros 121 – 60 Buckskins, Points Torros 12 – 2 Buckskins
Wednesday 13th June – Monte Mar Lords v La Marina
On a lovely sunny morning the Lords had a good result against La Marina, winning on three rinks. Well done to Sheila Roberts (singles) Pauline and Barrie Woodfine, Tanya Oliver, Howie Williams, Joe Ridley and skip Diane Ridley.
Shots Lords 88 – 79 La Marina, Points Lords 8 – 4 La Marina

Quesada Bowling Club Report

Tigers VCL stormed to an excellent 10-2 victory over San Luis, putting them within touching distance of the championship of division 3. Sandra Heath (ladies singles), Terry Morgan (mens singles), Mel Highland & Alan Barton (pairs), plus Carol Lowry, Steve Hibberd & Keith Lowry (trips), were the victorious disciplines. An excellent win for the Tigers 10-2 points and 99-85 shots.
Quesada Lancasters played away at San Miguel this week. After a hard match there were two winning rinks – Alan Barton, Steve Hibberd, Derek Toozer and Maggie Gray, Peter Farrell, Peter Bradbury – securing The Lancasters 4 points.
The Lions are in second position in Division 1 of the VCL chasing hard to catch the leaders. Playing away to Vistabella Vikings, high winds had quite an effect on the bowling. But well done to Chris Brazier, Pearl Houghton & Graham Phillips (Triples) for maintaining their winning record and contributing to the Lions gaining overall shots. The rinks secured a draw, and great effort from the pairs who although well down, came back strongly and were just defeated by the home team. George Carnell played an outstanding game in the mens singles but was beaten on the last end. Carol Broomfield also played a strong game but was unable to overcome the Vikings Ladies singles champion. Thanks to our reserves – this week Del Toozer and Veronica Sale – who were there to support and encourage their team mates.
VCL Cheetahs played another evening match on Wednesday this week hosting Emerald Isle in an interesting and really enjoyable game. Quesada pairs and trips did the honours winning on their rinks but Emerald Isle won overall with 3 rinks and overall shots so the points were 8-4 to Emerald Isle.
This match was swiftly followed on Thursday morning when The Cheetahs and San Miguel Marshals played the re-arranged game after last weeks torrential rain. Winners for the Cheetahs were John Stephenson (singles) Liz Richardson, Stella Jakeman and skip Brian Elliot (Trips) and a draw for the rinks team led by Joe Brinton. The Cheetahs just had the edge winning the shots so ended a great mornings Bowls with a score of 7-5.
