Heavy machinery is already on-site, and workers have begun removing the historic natural wood pavement and various structures. The contractor, CHM, started at the breakwater’s end near the lighthouse, using a large crane to remove pergolas. Additionally, the metal railings, which had deteriorated due to corrosion and humidity, have been taken down, along with the long bench running along the promenade. This will be replaced with new viewing points over the Mediterranean.

Work has also started on the wooden pavement at Marina Salinas, replacing it with a more durable technological wood. This upgrade is crucial as the previous uneven surfaces caused numerous pedestrian falls.

The remodelling project, awarded for 6,543,733 euros last August, aims for completion by next July. The City Council hopes this will align with the opening of the new Paseo del Mar leisure centre.

The current works cover over a kilometre of the walkway but exclude the promenade along Juan Aparicio, next to the Man of the Sea monument. The governing team plans a separate tender for this area, including a connecting walkway to the leisure centre and provisions for required electrical installations.

Simultaneously, Agamed is completing the new stormwater collector at the port. The municipal government plans to tender for additional projects by year-end, including remodelling Paseo de la Libertad, reinstating fairground workers, and reorganising the ‘hippie’ stalls. Efforts will be made to preserve large trees, although some have been transplanted.
