The Spanish government will establish a High Commissioner to expedite the reconstruction of areas affected by the Dana, particularly in Valencia.

Announced by Minister Ángel Víctor Torres, this role will have a specific, reinforced structure for prompt responses, similar to the post-eruption efforts in La Palma.

The High Commissioner will join an inter-ministerial commission and internal working groups to oversee the reconstruction, with approval pending from the Council of Ministers.

Torres highlighted the need for comprehensive measures, including decrees, laws, and EU aid, acknowledging the challenges and the necessity of rising to the occasion. The initiative mirrors the previous successful effort for La Palma’s recovery and underscores the urgency of addressing climate change and its impacts.
