Whilst shed loads of taxpayers’ money are spent on the futuristic La Siesta Park the surrounding San Luis, La Siesta and El Chaparral communities are sinking under discarded rubbish, litter, dog dirt and weeds. Much the same can be said of Torretas I, II and II.
Such is the neglected appearance of these once showcase areas that long-term La Siesta resident 74-year-old Gary Oliver felt he had little choice but to personally do the council’s work for it by clearing and collecting weeds from outside his home in Calle Ravel.
The situation is even worse in San Luis’s Avenida Abanto, a vital road that serves all three communities. The once splendid dual carriageway is now an eyesore blighted by overgrown weeds, broken pavements and kerbs.
The pensioner has the support of other residents in demanding that Torrevieja council pay attention to the entire community not just their grandiose developments.
