More than €150,000 has been invested in a tractor and specialist lifting vehicle to support landscaping, vegetation clearance and tree maintenance

New machinery has been introduced to strengthen the maintenance of parks, gardens and public green spaces across Orihuela Costa.

The equipment, acquired by municipal company ILDO, was presented at Playa Flamenca and represents an investment of more than €150,000.

The purchase includes a tractor fitted with several attachments for maintaining green areas, including a brush cutter for clearing overgrown vegetation.

A specialist truck equipped with an articulated lifting arm has also been added to the fleet. The platform can reach a working height of up to 24 metres and will be used primarily for pruning palm trees and other large trees.

The machinery was purchased outright rather than obtained through a rental or leasing agreement.

Equipment adapted to operational needs

The new vehicles and tools were selected following an assessment of the first 18 months of the current green-space maintenance service.

During that period, ILDO reviewed the equipment originally assigned to the contract and identified areas where the available resources could be adjusted to reflect day-to-day operational requirements more accurately.

Some equipment was found to be less essential than initially expected, while the tractor and elevated work platform were identified as necessary additions.

Employees involved in maintaining the coastal area’s parks and gardens also contributed suggestions during the assessment process.

The new machinery is expected to help teams work more efficiently while improving safety during vegetation clearance, tree pruning and the maintenance of difficult-to-reach areas.

Green-space maintenance budget nearly doubled

Annual spending on the maintenance of Orihuela Costa’s green spaces has increased from approximately €750,000 under the previous arrangement to around €1.4 million.

The expanded service includes additional personnel and technical resources intended to improve the condition of parks, gardens and other landscaped public areas.

The latest machinery will increase the capacity of maintenance teams and allow work to be adapted more closely to the requirements of individual green spaces.

Residents are expected to see more consistent vegetation control, safer pruning operations and improved upkeep of public areas throughout the coastal district.

The investment forms part of wider improvement work taking place across Orihuela Costa, including road resurfacing, the redevelopment of major avenues, beach improvements and planned changes to the management of household waste services.

ILDO will now incorporate the equipment into its regular maintenance programme covering parks, gardens, trees and public green spaces along the Orihuela coastline.
