More than 2,000 late-enrolment students during the 2024/2025 academic year highlight the need to strengthen educational resources in the city

Torrevieja Town Hall’s Councillor for Education, Ricardo Recuero, has announced the launch of the School Admissions Campaign for the 2026/2027 academic year, aimed at families enrolling their children in Infant, Primary, Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) and Baccalaureate.

The process, which is essential for planning the next school year, comes amid unprecedented demographic and school population growth in the city. This makes the campaign particularly significant for both families and the public administrations involved.

To help families complete the necessary procedures, the Town Hall has prepared a detailed information guide clearly explaining how the process works, the official calendar, scoring criteria and all the information required to ensure applications are submitted correctly.

The procedure will be carried out entirely online through the official Generalitat Valenciana platform, allowing families to manage their applications in an efficient, transparent and accessible way.

Education System Under Intense Demographic Pressure

Councillor for Education Ricardo Recuero stressed that this year’s admissions process clearly reflects Torrevieja’s demographic evolution.

“In 2019 we had 10,597 students enrolled in the municipality and today, in 2026, we have already exceeded 17,000. We are talking about more than 6,000 new students in just seven years, which is an absolutely exceptional figure,” he said.

Recuero added that “this growth is not only quantitative, but also continuous and sustained over time, placing constant pressure on the local education system”.

In this regard, he highlighted that “in the 2024/2025 academic year alone, more than 2,000 late-enrolment students joined the system, representing a very significant increase that requires permanent adaptation of educational planning”.

Planning, Coordination and Calls for More Resources

The Education Councillor explained that the Town Hall is working in coordination with the regional administration to respond to this situation.

“We are facing a historic challenge that requires planning, anticipation and institutional commitment. Torrevieja is one of the municipalities with the highest growth in student numbers in the whole of the Valencian Community, and this must be met with an appropriate response,” he said.

Guarantees, Transparency and Support for Families

Recuero recalled that the admissions process is governed by objective and transparent criteria, including proximity to the family home, siblings already enrolled at the school, family income and duly accredited specific circumstances.

He also urged families to “review all documentation in advance and respect the established deadlines, as this is a highly structured procedure with fixed dates”.

Torrevieja Town Hall is making updated information, advice and support available to residents throughout the process, in coordination with the municipality’s schools.

In conclusion, Ricardo Recuero reiterated that “education is a priority for this governing team and we will continue working to ensure that all students have access to quality education in suitable conditions”.
