Pilar de la Horadada is stepping up its recycling efforts with the arrival of 440 brand-new selective collection containers and a new 26-cubic-metre side-loading truck designed to make waste collection faster, quieter, and more efficient.
The upgrade, carried out by STV Gestión, the company managing the town’s waste services, includes 220 blue containers for paper and cardboard and 220 yellow ones for plastics and packaging. The new truck will replace the old top-loading system, tripling collection capacity and allowing for more frequent pick-ups.
The replacement of the containers began this week and will continue through mid-November, starting in coastal areas before moving to Pinar de Campoverde, Lo Romero, La Cañada, and then the town centre.
STV Gestión highlighted that the new system will reduce noise, traffic disruption, and environmental impact, thanks to the truck’s energy efficiency and manoeuvrability.
Councillor for the Environment, Pedro Miguel Moya, said the initiative “improves the service and helps residents recycle more and better,” contributing to cleaner streets and a healthier environment.
He thanked residents already committed to recycling and encouraged others to join in: “We all benefit when we recycle — above all, the environment wins.”
The town council allocates €5.28 million annually to street cleaning and waste collection services.
