Murcia’s Civil Guard, in collaboration with the College of Nursing, has launched a pioneering training program in self-defense for healthcare professionals. The initiative aims to equip nurses with the skills and confidence to manage potentially aggressive or violent situations in their workplace.
More than fifty healthcare professionals will receive specialized training from members of the Civil Guard’s Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) of the 5th Zone. The sessions, held last Tuesday and again on November 19, focus on protection and self-defense techniques designed specifically for medical environments.
The training will be delivered by four Civil Guard officers — a lead instructor and three trainers — who specialize in Operational Intervention. The program adapts methods and protocols used by national security forces to meet the specific needs and legal framework of healthcare personnel. The goal is to enhance safety, provide practical tools for de-escalation, and strengthen collaboration between law enforcement and the healthcare sector.
This initiative marks the first of its kind in the region and underscores the Civil Guard’s commitment to supporting the medical community in preventing and responding to workplace aggression.
The Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) plays a crucial role in ensuring public safety and the protection of citizens’ rights. Its duties include crime prevention, maintaining public order during emergencies, and responding to incidents involving nuclear, radiological, biological, or chemical threats (NRBQ).
Through this collaboration, the Civil Guard continues to foster a safer, more secure working environment for healthcare professionals across Murcia.
