Holy Week, Miguel Hernández, and nature are the tourist routes presented by Gonzalo Montoya, Councillor for Tourism in Orihuela, for the month of October, a varied offer covering those three main themes.

Semana Santa

Orihuela, which is part of the European Network of Celebrations of Holy Week and Easter, which is celebrated in the month of October, offers routes focused on the rich tradition of its Holy Week, with the aim of attracting visitors interested in this celebration. Two tours stand out, “History and Curiosities of Holy Week”, on October 13 and 19, which will allow visitors to discover historical details and anecdotes about this festivity.

Anniversary of the birth of Miguel Hernandez

In commemoration of the anniversary of the birth of the poet from Orihuela, Miguel Hernández, on October 30, two new routes have been organised, which will include a poetry recital. On October 10, the “Ruta Homenaje a Josefina Manresa” will be held, a tribute to the poet’s wife, which will begin in Plaza Josefina Manresa and explore the life and legacy of this key figure in the biography of Miguel Hernández. On October 30, the “Aquí naci ó Miguel Hernández” route will take visitors to the poet ’s birthplace, where they will be able to learn in detail about the place where he was born and its surroundings.

Environmental routes

Taking advantage of the boom in ecotourism, the council has organised a series of environmental routes that have been very well received in recent months. Among them, on October 17, “El Monte San Miguel: Natural and Cultural History of Orihuela” invites participants to explore this historic enclave with panoramic views of the Vega Baja del Segura. On October 25, the route “Conoce al Búho Real en Sierra Escalona” will offer a night experience to observe the wildlife of the municipality. On October 26, “El Monte de Arneva and Hurchillo, the Balcony of the Vega de Orihuela” will allow you to discover the fauna and fossils of ancient marine ecosystems. Finally, on October 18, “El Embalse de La Pedrera, the Wetland of Orihuela” will learn about the biodiversity and ecological importance of this local oasis.
