A 39-year-old Ukrainian man, wanted in his home country for drug trafficking and the theft of two mopeds, was unexpectedly arrested at the Torrevieja National Police Station.

The man presented himself at the Foreigners Documentation Unit to conduct an administrative procedure. However, during identity verification, officers discovered an outstanding International Arrest Warrant (OID) issued by Ukrainian authorities.

The arrest occurred within the police station itself. Investigations revealed the man was sought in Ukraine for two counts of misappropriation and drug-related offenses, crimes punishable by up to five years imprisonment in his home country.

Crimes Committed in 2016-2017

The alleged offenses took place between 2016 and 2017 in the Ukrainian city of Berdychiv. The fugitive is accused of stealing two mopeds, causing damages exceeding 11,000 Ukrainian hryvnia (approximately 253 euros).

Furthermore, during a police stop following one of the thefts, authorities allegedly seized 665 grams of amphetamines, leading to the drug trafficking charge.

Extradition Proceedings

Following his arrest, the detainee was transferred to police headquarters. After completing legal proceedings, he was placed at the disposal of the Central Investigative Court No. 4 of the National High Court, the body responsible for overseeing his extradition process.
