On Friday 13th October Montgo Golf Society played a stableford competition at Oliva Nova, kindly sponsored by Linda and Dennis Coe. It was nice to see several of our couples returning to Spain and swelling our numbers to 31 players on the day, a great improvement on recent fields. Oliva Nova is returning to its glorious best following recent autumn maintenance, and this was reflected in the scores with again the first three places being decided on countback.
In first place, with a fine 36 points off 17.5 was Denise Cooper, pushing Gordon Gleeson (17.6) in to second and Colin Foster (11.9) in to third on countback. Penny Barden took fourth place with 33 points off 14.9, with Dave Fotheringham and Brian Baybut the unlucky players to miss out after also scoring 33 points. In the singles knockout semi-final Brian Barden continued his impressive run by beating Ed Wallace in a high quality match 2 and 1 to take his place in the final. An indication of the quality of the match is that Ed won both the nearest the pins on the day, and also had two 2’s, whilst Celia Cronin and Denise Cooper also recorded 2’s for coveted Montgo balls.
Our generous sponsors also provided four bottles of wine for a card draw, and these went to the lucky quartet of Arthur Burrows, Alan Webster, Sue Burman, and Sally Burrows.
Our next event is on Friday 28th October, when we will be playing a stableford competition at Oliva Nova. Guests are welcome, subject to availability and a current handicap certificate, and should register by visiting the website at www.montgogolfsociety.net and completing an online booking form.
