The Guardia Civil has arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with a series of thefts from work vans in the Murcia municipality of Cieza following an investigation into the theft of professional tools and machinery.

The suspect, described by investigators as a known repeat offender with a history of similar crimes, is accused of carrying out at least seven break-ins targeting commercial vehicles parked in the historic centre of the town.

The investigation began after police detected an increase in complaints from tradespeople and contractors whose vans had been broken into overnight. According to the Guardia Civil, the thief operated during the early hours of the morning when pedestrian traffic in the old town was minimal.

Investigators discovered that the suspect used force to smash vehicle windows before stealing high-value professional tools and equipment stored inside. The stolen machinery represented significant financial losses for the victims, many of whom relied on the equipment for their daily work.

A key breakthrough in the case came through public cooperation after officers received information suggesting some of the stolen tools had been sold on to third parties locally. This helped investigators identify a local resident already known to police for offences of a similar nature.

Once sufficient evidence had been gathered, Guardia Civil officers located and arrested the suspect in Cieza. He now faces charges relating to seven counts of aggravated theft from vehicles.

During the investigation, officers were also able to recover some of the stolen tools and return them to their rightful owners.

The Guardia Civil highlighted the importance of public cooperation in helping solve the case and reminded residents to report suspicious activity, particularly around parked commercial vehicles and industrial areas during nighttime hours.

Police continue to investigate whether the suspect may be linked to additional unsolved thefts in the area.
