Orihuela will host the 37th edition of its long-running Regional School Theatre Festival this May, bringing together students from across the Vega Baja for nearly a month of performances.
The event, presented by Education Councillor Vicente Pina, will take place at the Teatro Circo Atanasio Díe from May 5 to 28. A total of 27 productions will be staged by nine schools from Orihuela and neighbouring municipalities including Torrevieja and Callosa de Segura.
Pina highlighted the longevity of the initiative, now in its fourth decade, describing it as a key educational project that promotes teamwork, creativity and communication skills through theatre. He stressed the importance of performing arts in education, noting their role in developing students’ confidence and collaborative abilities.
The programme features a diverse mix of performances, ranging from classic theatre to modern and experimental productions, reflecting the breadth of student creativity across participating schools.
Shows will run daily at 10:00, aimed at audiences from early years to secondary education. Admission is free, although advance booking is recommended to manage attendance.
Organisers have encouraged both schools and the wider public to attend, emphasising the educational value of the festival and the opportunity to support young performers from across the region.
