The Orihuela Local Police have begun their mandatory firearms training this week in the newly refurbished shooting range at the municipal facilities on Calle Monserrate Salinas. The modernised space, promoted by the Department of Citizen Security led by Councillor Mónica Pastor, is designed to provide officers with the best possible conditions for safe and effective training.
The €18,000 refurbishment included significant technical and structural improvements, such as reinforced bullet traps made from new high-resistance materials, high-density rubber flooring for better soundproofing and shock absorption, and upgraded lighting with adjustable visibility zones. The works also involved repairing ceilings, support rails, and protective walls, as well as replacing latex curtains to improve overall safety and durability.
Councillor Pastor said the upgrades reflect the council’s commitment to police professionalism:
“Our officers now train in a modern, secure facility that matches their dedication and professionalism. Safety begins with having the right spaces for training and preparation.”
The range is also used by other police forces across the Vega Baja region. Regular firearms practice is compulsory to ensure officers remain calm, confident, and ready to respond in high-pressure situations.
“To be the best, we must always be prepared for the worst,” Pastor added.
