Orihuela Costa is a hamlet of the municipality of Orihuela which is located in the province of Alicante and the community of Valencia in Spain. It is located about 35 – 40 kilometers from the city of Orihuela. It covers the coastal area of the Southern Costa Blanca from Punta Prima to Mil Palmeras.

In 2018, the municipality of Orihuela had 76.778 inhabitants. The main urban population centers were the city of Orihuela and the coastal areas of the Orihuela-Costa. According to the census of the 2009, around 41% of the Oriolana population was of foreign nationality and 77% are of European origin. In the municipality of Orihuela, there were approximately 17.121 Britons and 9.545 citizens of other European countries. The non-Spanish population of European countries is mainly concentrated in the areas of Cabo Roig, Campoamor, Villamartin, Playa Flamenca, La Florida, Los Altos, and Punta Prima.

The Orihuela-Costa has enjoyed tremendous growth since the beginning of 2000 when there were  barely 5,645 inhabitants. With the tourism and construction boom on the Costa Blanca the population of the area grew to 32,530 inhabitants in 2013, but following the housing crisis many foreigners living in the area decided to return to their countries of origin. In 2017 the population was just 20,000 inhabitants but that number increased slightly in 2018.

The data is based on the number of people registered on the coast, but there are many foreigners living in the area who are not registered. Some of those foreigners live there permanently and some of them own holiday homes there. Therefore, there is a disparity between the actual number of people living on the Orihuela-Costa and the number of people registered. In fact, it is thought that around 45.000 people actually live in the area.
