The Departments of Senior Citizens and Youth organised an intergenerational excursion bringing together grandparents and grandchildren for a day of companionship, learning and fun.

The aim of the initiative was to encourage the exchange of experiences and strengthen bonds between generations, something organisers said was more than achieved by the warm atmosphere throughout the day.

The outing began with a visit to Chocolates Marcos Tonda, where participants were able to learn about the chocolate-making process. The visit also included a tasting session, which proved popular with all ages.

The group then travelled to Villajoyosa, where they walked along the seafront and admired the town’s famous colourful houses. Lunch was held in a relaxed setting, giving grandparents and grandchildren the chance to share stories, memories and different perspectives.

The excursion continued in Alicante with a visit to a modern interactive museum. The younger participants helped guide their grandparents through the different displays, creating moments of curiosity, surprise and laughter.

The day ended in Torrellano with a group meal and a lively game inspired by Pasapalabra, adapted with questions mixing modern topics with traditional knowledge. The event closed with dancing, as grandparents and grandchildren shared the floor together.

At the start of the trip, all participants received a commemorative neckerchief bearing the slogan “Connecting Generations”. At the end of the day, they were also given a souvenir bottle as a reminder of the experience.

Councillors Melisa García and Elisabet Marcos praised the success of the initiative, saying it had created “spaces for intergenerational meeting and strengthened family and social ties”.

They also confirmed their intention to continue promoting similar activities following the strong participation and positive response to the event.
