Renovation work on Avenida del Cabo in Cabo Roig is continuing, with improvements to public lighting, accessibility and pedestrian safety.
Orihuela’s Infrastructure councillor, Víctor Valverde, visited the works alongside Coast councillor Manuel Mestre to review progress on the project, which represents an investment of almost €200,000.
Much of the street lighting upgrade has already been completed, replacing old sodium vapour lamps with high-efficiency LED technology. Valverde said the change brings “an important improvement in energy efficiency, as well as safety and visibility for pedestrians and drivers”.
The new lights are already operating along much of the avenue, with councillors noting a clear improvement on one of Orihuela Costa’s busiest roads, particularly during the summer months.
The project is now moving into a new phase focused on pedestrian accessibility and replacing damaged street elements. Six new lighting columns will be installed at points where they had been missing for years due to accidents and deterioration. Work will also be carried out on the central reservation.
Around 14 pedestrian crossings are also being adapted to meet current accessibility regulations. Some had no proper dropped kerbs, while others had slopes that failed to comply with legal standards.
Valverde said the scheme is not limited to replacing lights, but aims to improve one of Cabo Roig’s main roads through better lighting, safer pedestrian movement and general road upgrades.
The works form part of Orihuela Council’s wider plan to improve infrastructure and urban renewal across Orihuela Costa.
