La Romana 4 – 4 Los Marineros
Following a minute’s silence on Remembrance Sunday, CF La Romana’s inaugural match in the Over 60s Costa Blanca League saw them host Los Marineros in a thrilling encounter. The match began with Los Marineros taking an early lead, scoring two goals within the first six minutes. However, La Romana fought back, with Mick the Pieman scoring two goals, including a penalty, to level the score at half-time.
The second half continued the intense back-and-forth action, with both teams exchanging goals and penalties. La Romana briefly took the lead, but Los Marineros equalized late in the game to secure a 4-4 draw. The match was a testament to the competitive spirit of the league, with both teams showcasing skill and determination.
The game was also notable for the introduction of the new four walking offences rule, which led to several penalty decisions. The referee, Dave Richardson, was praised for his excellent performance in managing the game.
After the game everyone retired to the bar to enjoy pie and chips. Underlining the friendly atmosphere in which the game of walking football is played. Los Marineros would like to thank Los Romanos and the bar staff for their hospitality.
Formentera 8 – 0 Hondón Valley Flyers
After both teams showed their respect with a minute’s silence, Formentera set about claiming the 3 points as they put Hondón under pressure for large parts of the game. The one opportunity for the visitors, a penalty awarded for four non-walking offenses, was saved superbly by the Formentera keeper. A red card in the third quarter hindered Hondón’s chances as the home side ran out comfortable winners by 8-0.
Rumours Bar provided post-match hospitality, with both teams now looking forward to the rematch.
