It was a fantastic day for the fourth year running to play for the Frome Firm Golf Bowl sponsored by Steve Burns and John Bolt.
Twenty-seven players took part and the format was full handicap Stableford playing in two groups with an overall winner.
On arrival at Altorreal we received the usual friendly greeting from Romana and her team with everything ready and waiting, the course was in good condition although they were tinning the front nine holes. The weather, after torrential rain a few days before, ended up with blue skies, sunny and a temperature of 27 degrees.
Between both groups the scores were between 20 and 35. The overall winner came from group B with his second win on the trot with a score of 38 points was “Dicky Ticker” Nick Chambers, runner was “Sat Nav” Steve Day with 31 points and third place on count back with “Tom Tom “Brian Court went to “Magic Mike” Mike Sharlot with 30 points.
Group A winner on count back with “Usain” John Bolt was “Bungle” Andy Godfrey with 35 points, runner up was John Bolt also with 35 points, and third place was Gary Hill with 30 points. There were 6 nearest the pins, group A holes 3 & 18 Simon Collins, hole 11 John Bolt, group B holes 2 & 16 “Tom Tom” Brian Court, hole 10 Kenny Dow. Best front 9 was “Mr Amstel” Peter Kelly with 18 points and best back 9 was “Mighty Quinn” Kevin Quinn with 18 points, the two’s pot was not won so there’s €60.00 for the next game.
Thank you to Steve Burns and John Bolt for providing all the prizes, also thank you to Kellie Katie and staff at Sheerin’s for the great hospitality.
The football card was won with Sunderland by Michael O Keeffe winning €40 and raising €40 for our charities 2026.
