Thirty unemployed individuals have joined an Employment Workshop in Orihuela, aimed at improving the urban environment of the Civil Guard Barracks in the San Francisco neighbourhood. The year-long program provides participants with training and certifications in construction, painting, gardening, and landscape restoration.

The project includes repairing and painting the park’s perimeter wall, upgrading fencing and pavement, installing urban furniture, and creating a new children’s play area. Traffic safety improvements, such as better road signage and pedestrian crossings, will also be made. Green spaces around the barracks will be restored with new grass, irrigation systems, and decorative plants.

The initiative is funded with €65,000 from the Orihuela City Council and an €824,292 grant from Labora. Mayor Pepe Vegara highlighted that the workshop not only enhances the local environment but also provides valuable job training and employment opportunities for participants.
