A court has remanded 17-year-old Samuel in custody after he denied slitting the throat of his ex-girlfriend, 15-year-old Cloe, in Orihuela Costa on Sunday night.

Despite being the main suspect and all evidence pointing to him, the boy has not confessed to the crime, neither to the Civil Guard investigators nor during his appearance at the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office in Alicante on Tuesday.

He admitted to being with the victim but denied any knowledge of the attack.

The presiding judge of the Investigating Court number 9 of Alicante has accepted the Prosecutor’s Office’s request for the precautionary measure of confinement for the alleged murderer. This measure is authorised for a maximum of six months, which is extendable for another six months at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

After spending five hours in the Palace of Justice in Alicante and undergoing questions for about two hours from the on-duty prosecutor, 17-year-old Samuel left at around six on Tuesday evening in a Civil Guard vehicle where he was headed for a juvenile detention centre in the province of Castellón, where he will spend his first night of confinement behind bars.

Friends of the victim say that the relationship between Cloe and Samuel had been very “toxic” and that she had suffered abuse, both psychologically and physically, but she never reported it out of fear.

Samuel’s parents left the Palace of Justice in Alicante late  afternoon accompanied by a lawyer and without making any statements to the media.

Meanwhile the death of 15-year-old Cloe has left her school community in shock. At IES Playa Flamenca, students and teachers are struggling to cope with the loss of their classmate.

The school organized a farewell ceremony for Cloe on Tuesday, where her loved ones and friends paid their final respects. Her body has been taken to the Torrevieja mortuary.

The aftermath of the tragedy has left visible scars. Blood stains still remain on the walls of the narrow alleyway where Cloe attempted to escape.

The area outside the school has become a memorial, filled with flowers, candles, and messages of grief and anger.

Friends and acquaintances of the couple reveal that their relationship was disorderly, marked by frequent breakups and reconciliations. However, they never anticipated such a violent outcome. The definitive end of their relationship appears to have triggered the fatal attack.

The school has provided psychological support to students, particularly those who were close to Cloe. While classes continue, the incident has cast a shadow over the entire school community.

Minister for Equality Ana Redondo has expressed her condolences and called on families to be vigilant and report any signs of domestic violence. She also emphasized the dangers of online platforms like OnlyFans and the importance of addressing issues like denialism.
