More than a year after the last extension of the previous contract expired the management of the municipal sports areas has finally been put out to tender. With a duration of three years, and two possible extensions, the tender for the three lots is valued at 14.8 million euros.

Sports management in the municipality has been a real headache. So much so that, during the early part of the summer the staff saw their salaries threatened by the delicate economic situation of Qlecuali, the company that has been providing the service.

The Councillor for Sports, Víctor Sigüenza, breathed a sigh of relief on Wednesday as he announced the details of the tender, which, once awarded, will be guaranteed for three years, extendable for two more.”

The new contract is structured in three main lots. The first is services for management staff, technicians, sports monitors and lifeguards for the implementation and development of municipal sports programmes and activities. Lot two is general maintenance services. And the third is access control, user information, concierge and cleaning.

The base tender budget for the three lots of the contract is 14,888,149 euros. This amount, the Council points out, covers expenses related to the services, including salaries, materials, and maintenance of facilities.

The technical specifications establish that the successful bidder must have a trained and experienced team, as well as the appropriate technical means to fulfil the obligations of the contract. The successful bidder’s responsibilities include the implementation of equality policies, the management of municipal sports events and the organisation of activities for people with disabilities, ensuring an inclusive and accessible approach for all users.
