Last Saturday saw the Orihuela mayor, Emilio Bascuñana, and a number of his councillors attend a short ceremony of tribute to Lieutenant Morejon to mark the 35th anniversary of his death in the waters of Cabo Roig.
The ceremony was held in the barracks of GOE III Special Operations Command adjacent to the popular marina.
Lieutenant Morejon lost his life when he went to the aid of a group of soldiers from the detachment who had fallen overboard and lost control of their boat. The boat subsequently hit the officer and he died at the scene from his injuries.
The mayor placed a wreath at the spot where he lost his life.
As well as having a section of the coastal walkway dedicated to his memory Lieutenant Morejon also had a children’s playpark in Camoamor named after him following it’s €55,000 renovation last December
