The 23rd Alicante Refractive International Congress (ARI) has closed its first month of broadcasting with 27,615 visits, consolidating its leadership as one of the world’s most influential online events in eye surgery. Organised under the scientific direction of Prof. Jorge Alió, the event was held from 23rd to 25th October with an intensive programme that brought together 124 experts, 54 national and 70 international, in refractive surgery, cataracts, cornea, clinical optometry and new applied technologies.

During the three days that ARI 2025 was broadcast live from Vissum Miranza Alicante, a total of 9,350 visits were recorded, a figure that rose to 21,177 visits in just fifteen days. For the professor of ophthalmology and honorary researcher at Miguel Hernández University (UMH) in Elche, ‘these figures reflect the growing global interest in this online format, which is establishing itself as a leading platform for digital ophthalmological training in the field of surgery and the study of the anterior segment of the eye, such as the cornea, cataracts, intraocular lenses, refractive defects and glaucoma’.

Among the participants were prominent names such as David Chang (USA), Farhad Hafezi (Switzerland), George Waring IV (USA), Courtney Kraus (USA), Shady Awwad (Lebanon), Burkhard Dick (Germany), Rafael Barraquer (Spain) and Renato Ambrósio JR (Brazil), among many others. They all addressed highly topical issues, such as the progression of childhood myopia, artificial intelligence in eye diagnosis, new techniques for the treatment of keratoconus, latest-generation EDOF lenses, and the approach to glaucoma through lens surgery.

True to its educational and open vocation, the exclusive medical platform aricongreso.com will be available online for the next six months, in both Spanish and English, thus facilitating deferred access to its content for professionals around the world who were unable to follow it live. This on demand model has been key in previous editions to extending the reach and usefulness of the congress as a tool for continuous updating.

As every year, Alicante Refractiva Internacional has the academic backing of Miguel Hernández University (UMH) in Elche, being accredited with ECMECs credits for Continuing Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development at European level. This is recognition of the scientific quality of its content and the teaching support offered by the associated university course “Clinical Refractive, Cataract and Corneal Surgery Course”.

This course, which has been running for more than twelve years, reinforces the commitment to innovation, teaching quality and free access to scientific knowledge of Dr Jorge Alió, the seventh most influential and inspiring ophthalmologist in the world in cataract and refractive surgery according to “The Ophthalmologist Power List 2025”, and the only Spaniard among the top 50.

With all this, the city of Alicante has once again become the global epicentre of advanced ophthalmological training thanks to ARI 2025. Its conference model, which combines scientific excellence, technological innovation and educational accessibility, has enabled the sharing of clinical advances, multicentre studies, surgical experiences and highly complex clinical cases.
