MURCIA. The Region of Murcia continues to be a top destination for international tourists, with British visitors leading the way. According to a recent analysis by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), 119,761 tourists from the United Kingdom visited Murcia in the first half of 2025, staying an average of 8.85 days. June saw the highest monthly influx, with 24,683 British travelers.
The INE’s report, “Experimental Statistics: Measuring Tourism Using Mobile Phones,” tracks international arrivals through mobile device activity on Spanish networks. The methodology allows authorities to estimate tourist numbers, though the institute notes potential margins of error, such as multiple devices per visitor or unconnected phones.
Germany and the Netherlands rank as Murcia’s next most important source markets. Germans totaled 64,217 visitors in the first six months, averaging 12.4 nights per stay, while the Netherlands contributed 60,267 tourists. Sweden and Italy follow, with 26,464 and 23,743 visitors, respectively.
Compared with the same period in 2024, the UK maintained its lead, while Germany overtook France—67,949 visitors in 2024—to become the second-largest foreign market this year.
The report also examines domestic tourism: in July, Murcia’s main domestic visitors came from the Valencian Community (78,200), Madrid (74,746), and Andalusia (51,632).
