Arenal Deportiva Lodge No. 65 marked a significant milestone on Tuesday, 17 June, by installing its first native Spanish-speaking brother, W. Bro. Ricardo Estornell Canet, into the Chair of King Solomon.

Traditionally an English-speaking lodge, this appointment underscores the flourishing diversity within its ranks.

The installation ceremony was conducted with exemplary fluency in Spanish by W. Bro. Philip Bowick, the outgoing Master, alongside W. Bro. Ian Brown, the Secretary, with the invaluable support of other officers.

A stalwart member of the lodge for over ten years, W. Bro. Ricardo has successfully progressed through every office, earning the admiration and affection of his brethren.

The event was further graced by the presence of the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. David Wynn, accompanied by his Official Escort. In his remarks, R.W. Bro. David Wynn congratulated the lodge on its exceptional installation ceremony and highlighted the importance of embracing linguistic and cultural diversity. He stated:

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the lodge and its members for an outstanding ceremony conducted in a second language. This landmark event not only celebrates our progress but also paves the way for more Spanish-speaking candidates to join what were mainly English-speaking lodges in Valencia.”

This historic occasion heralds a new chapter for Arenal Deportiva Lodge No. 65 as it continues to enrich its community with diverse traditions and perspectives.
