Pilar de la Horadada is set to launch a free urban bus service linking its key towns, in a move designed to promote public transportation and reduce traffic congestion and pollution.

The service will officially begin in the winter months, operating exclusively in the mornings. The first departure is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. from La Vaguada, Av de Francia, Mil Palmeras, with a return journey from Calle Orquídea in Pinar de Campoverde at 10:10 a.m. There will be two departures each morning, spaced two and a half hours apart.

In summer, the service will expand to include afternoon trips, offering a total of five departures throughout the day. The first will continue to start at 9:00 a.m., with the last buses departing at 7:40 p.m. from Mil Palmeras and 8:45 p.m. from calle Orquídea.

This initiative by the Pilar de la Horadada City Council represents a significant upgrade from previous transport offerings. In addition to being completely free of charge, the buses will be adapted for passengers with reduced mobility. Each vehicle will have a minimum of 16 seats, including one specially equipped for accessibility.

The route will cover 22 stops across the municipality, including El Mojón, Torre de la Horadada, Mil Palmeras, the central urban area of Pilar de la Horadada, and Pinar de Campoverde. The service will run a circular route, starting in Mil Palmeras and ending at Pinar de Campoverde before returning.

As part of the improvements, bus stops will be upgraded with real-time schedule displays, and the buses will feature a new customized design.

The Council has allocated €413,200 for a four-year contract to provide the service, with an optional one-year extension. Officials hope the initiative will encourage residents and visitors to opt for public transport over private vehicles, leading to reduced emissions and better air quality across the region.
