Three individuals have been arrested, including the parents of a baby who died on Sunday in Roquetas de Mar (Almería), after allegedly undergoing an illegal circumcision at home.
According to the Almería Civil Guard, the infant suffered severe bleeding as a result of the unauthorized procedure. The person who carried out the circumcision reportedly lacked any medical qualifications.
The baby’s parents, whose ages have not been disclosed, were taken into custody on Monday morning, along with the individual responsible for performing the surgery. Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains open, and a related search was conducted later that afternoon.
Local newspaper Diario de Almería reported that the family is originally from Mali. Despite the parents taking the baby to a medical centre after noticing the excessive bleeding, healthcare staff were unable to save the child’s life.
