To contribute to the cultural richness of Holy Week in Orihuela, the Department of Tourism has organized a series of sacred music concerts that will take place on the night of Holy Thursday and into the early hours of Good Friday. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to highlight the town’s historical and spiritual heritage during one of the most significant periods of the liturgical calendar.
The concerts will be held at historically significant sites across the city, all designated as Assets of Cultural Interest. The performances will be delivered by two chamber quartets composed of distinguished professors from the Orihuela Professional Conservatory of Music. Their repertoire will feature a carefully curated selection of sacred music, reflecting the solemnity of the occasion.
The concerts will begin on the evening of Thursday, April 17, and continue into the early morning of Friday, April 18, coinciding with the Procession of Silence. The scheduled times and locations are as follows:
- 8:30 PM to 9:15 PM: in front of the Sanctuary of Monserrate
- 9:30 PM to 10:15 PM: in front of the Church of Saints Justa and Rufina, and also at the façade of the Church of Santiago
- 12:15 AM to 1:00 AM: beside Santo Domingo School
- 12:30 AM to 1:15 AM: in Salvador Square, at the entrance of the Cathedral
The Department of Tourism emphasizes its ongoing commitment to promoting culture and preserving Orihuela’s legacy, especially during a Holy Week celebration recognized as a Festival of International Tourist Interest.
