Work is now underway in Rojales to install a new pedestrian bridge over the Segura River. While the bridge structure itself is still being completed off-site, the City Council has begun preparing the area where it will be installed.

The new footbridge will be located at the edge of the town centre, connecting the Los Frailes neighbourhood, the high school area, and recently expanded urban developments with the fairgrounds. This location is a key gathering point, not only for the weekly Thursday market but also for major local events like the Moors and Christians festivities.

Awarded last summer to the Covial–Carrión Pasarela Río Segura–Rojales joint venture, the project carries a total investment of €491,000. Initial work this month includes laying foundations and installing street lighting and lamp posts.

The footbridge itself—currently under construction—will be transported to the site and assembled with the help of a heavy-duty crane. Once installed, it will serve as the penultimate pedestrian-only crossing before the Segura River reaches its mouth in Guardamar del Segura.

Designed as part of a broader plan to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity across Rojales, the structure will feature an arched design made of circular metal profiles, with a reinforced concrete deck suspended from the arch by stainless steel tension rods.

The Council expects the project to be completed by the end of May.
