The Mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, and the Councilor for Health, Irene Celdrán, announced that the Orihuela Council will purchase a premises in the district of Correntías Medias to establish a medical clinic, once the bidding and awarding process is completed. They were accompanied during their visit by local pedaneo Andrés Jordán.
Councilor Celdrán highlighted the significance of this step, stating, “Today is a great day for Correntías. Since the beginning of this term, we have been committed to making this project a reality.”
She explained that residents had been requesting this facility for years, but renovation work could not be carried out because the premises did not belong to the Council. She thanked the Departments of Heritage and Procurement for their collaboration in launching the bidding process.
Celdrán also announced that the next steps will involve drafting the project and carrying out the necessary renovations. She added that the same process will soon be initiated for the Virgen del Camino Medical Clinic and that maintenance work is ongoing at other clinics within the council’s means.
Local pedaneo Andrés Jordán expressed his gratitude to both the mayor and the councillor for their commitment to the district, stating, “I hope we will soon be able to enjoy a fully equipped clinic that provides the care we deserve.”
Mayor Pepe Vegara emphasized that “this is excellent news, as Correntías—and soon Virgen del Camino—will finally have proper facilities for both residents and healthcare professionals.”
The bidding process has now been published on the Orihuela City Council’s procurement portal. The purchase will be awarded through direct adjudication, acquiring a premises with a garage/storage area, which will then be renovated by the Department of Health.
The total budget for the acquisition is €89,480 (VAT included), with the finalization of the purchase deed expected within two months from the date of award notification, as specified in the contract’s technical specifications.
