- The Civil Guard has released a photograph of the seized items so that potential victims can identify them and request their return.
The Civil Guard, as part of Operation Barnan, has arrested a 35-year-old Moldovan man suspected of committing five forced robberies in residential homes and one in a café since last December. Most of the crimes occurred in Calpe, except for one, which took place in Llíber.
During February and early March, the Civil Guard detected an increase in burglaries targeting chalets and cafés in Calpe. In response, the Investigation Unit of the Main Civil Guard Station in Calpe launched an operation aimed at stopping these crimes and apprehending those responsible.
The initial investigations revealed that the robberies were committed at night and that the suspect likely acted alone, using a consistent method: breaking doors or windows to gain access to the properties.
By analysing hours of security footage, collecting testimonies, and conducting surveillance, officers were able to identify and place the suspect at the crime scenes. On the afternoon of March 11, authorities successfully located and arrested him.
Following his arrest, a search was conducted at his residence in a local housing development, where numerous items were seized, including electronic devices, tools, jewellery, and costume jewellery, all of questionable origin.
The suspect, along with the confiscated items, was brought before the Guard Court of Instruction in Denia, which ordered his release under precautionary measures.
Notably, the suspect has a long criminal record for property-related offenses. At the time of his arrest, he was subject to an active search, arrest, and appearance warrant issued by Investigative Court No. 3 of the Denia Judicial District for burglaries committed in Altea in November and December of last year.
The Civil Guard continues its investigation to determine the origin of the recovered items. To assist with this, they have released a photograph of the confiscated goods, allowing potential victims to identify and reclaim their belongings. The items are currently stored at the Main Civil Guard Station in Calpe.
