The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, in cooperation with the Cartagena Local Police, conducted an operation in the waters off La Azohía-Cartagena to identify the operator of a semi-rigid inflatable boat that was traveling at high speed without navigation lights.
The operation began when officers from the Provincial Maritime Service of the Civil Guard detected the inflatable boat speeding between buoys that mark the traditional tuna fishing area (Almadraba) of La Azohía, with no lights, creating a significant navigational hazard.
Despite repeated instructions from the officers, the sole occupant of the vessel appeared disoriented and failed to comply, showing clear signs of being under the influence of alcohol, thereby endangering both his own safety and that of other vessels in the vicinity.
The Civil Guard escorted him to shore, where the Cartagena Local Police administered a breathalyzer test. The result showed a blood alcohol level of 0.76 mg/l per liter of exhaled air.
The alleged violation of Maritime Safety Law has been reported to the Cartagena Maritime Authority for further action.
