The Orihuela Council has opened a bidding process for a contract to tarmac several streets in the Torrezenia urbanization on the coast. The project is valued at €60,000 and was one of the winning initiatives in the 2019 participatory budgets.

These works, like many others, were delayed due to the lack of approval for municipal budgets until May 2024. Though the 2025 budget was approved later that year, this investment stems from the first approved budgets, dating back to the 2018 fiscal year.

Coastal residents have consistently called for increased investment in both infrastructure and services. For now, using the funds allocated in the participatory budgets, the work will be carried out on Avenida Orihuela, Calle Carlos Torres, and Avenida Torrevieja in Torrezenia.

In response to these major deficiencies, the Contracting Department has also launched a tender for additional road works in Orihuela Costa, valued at €1 million. This is part of a larger, integrated project called “Orihuela Road Paving 2025,” which totals €2.3 million. The remaining funds will be directed toward the town centre of Orihuela and its surrounding districts.

In this regard, the Orihuela Council has made some progress and, just a week ago, received the results of a feasibility study. The study concluded that by using a municipal company to manage the work they would save €620,000 annually and provide greater job stability and more efficient resource management.
