In 2024, the Emergency Information and Coordination Centres (CICUs) managed over 690,000 calls related to emergencies and healthcare across the Valencian Community. Of these, 259,869 calls came from Alicante, 79,529 from Castellón, and 350,958 from Valencia. Health emergency resources were deployed 398,672 times throughout the year.
The CICUs, part of the Ministry of Health, received a total of 690,356 calls, with 237,515 (34.4%) related to health emergencies and 102,464 (14.8%) for medical emergencies. Additionally, 75,537 calls (10.9%) were for medical consultations, and 181,549 calls (26.2%) were for urgent unassisted and secondary medical transport, such as transfers between hospitals. The remaining 101,928 calls (14.7%) were associated with incidents or inquiries.
Compared to 2023, the number of calls increased by 2.4%, with 637,756 calls recorded in the previous year. In 2023, there were 342,641 calls from Valencia, 249,313 from Alicante, and 81,802 from Castellón. On average, the CICUs handled 1,886 calls per day in 2024, up from 1,846 calls daily in 2023.
Staffed 24/7, 365 days a year, by medical coordinators, nurses, announcers, and health documentation technicians, the CICUs are always ready to respond to any urgent health situation in the region.
The calls handled by the CICUs in 2024 led to the mobilization of emergency health service vehicles 398,672 times, averaging 1,089 dispatches daily. Depending on the type of emergency, the CICU dispatches the most appropriate healthcare resource, considering the urgency and the specific condition.
The Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) carried out 68,794 services in 2024, averaging 188 daily mobilizations. The Advanced Life Support (ALS) units performed 5,376 operations, or 15 daily services. Basic Life Support (BLS) units handled 288,449 calls throughout the year, with an average of 788 per day, while non-assisted transport ambulances conducted 36,053 calls, averaging 99 daily.
By province, Alicante received 144,933 medical transport services, Castellón had 56,344, and Valencia saw 197,395.
In the event of a medical emergency, it’s crucial to immediately call 1-1-2. Stay calm and provide clear, concise information, including the exact location, the sex and age of the patient, and any relevant medical history to ensure the swift and efficient dispatch of appropriate help.
