Women are at the forefront of entrepreneurship in rural South Alicante, leading more than 70% of self-employment projects supported by LEADER grants, according to the Local Action Group (GAL) ASIR.
To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, GAL ASIR highlighted the crucial role of women in revitalizing rural areas through business ventures. In the last LEADER grant program, 13 women-led projects secured nearly €300,000 in European funding, alongside three additional female-led business initiatives.
These businesses include a natural cosmetics lab, rural accommodations, a laser hair removal clinic, a photography studio, a representation office for streamers, and an online store for eco-friendly cut flowers.
New LEADER Grant Opportunity
The Diario Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana has published the guidelines for the next LEADER grant call, which will soon open for applications. The program aims to boost rural investment, improve services, combat depopulation, and generate employment.
Key funding opportunities include:
Up to €100,000 for new or improved businesses (covering up to 65% of the investment).
Up to €19,000 for new self-employed entrepreneurs in rural areas.
Additional funding for non-profits and municipalities working on projects to enhance residents’ quality of life.
Areas Eligible for Funding
The 13 rural areas benefiting from the program include: La Torre de les Maçanes, Aigües, Busot, Agost, Salinas, Hondón de las Nieves, Hondón de los Frailes, Algueña, La Romana, Daya Vieja, and rural districts of Elche, Almoradí, and Orihuela.
