The Civil Guard has arrested two young men for allegedly committing a public health offense after they were caught selling chloroethane near a well-known nightclub in Almoradí.

The incident took place on March 1, when officers from the Investigation Unit of the Almoradí Civil Guard set up a surveillance operation to prevent drug sales near the venue. During the monitoring, they observed multiple individuals repeatedly approaching a parked car within an hour of the nightclub’s opening.

The individuals entered the back seat of the vehicle, engaged in a brief conversation with the driver or passenger, exchanged money, and received a small white box before leaving.

Later, officers confirmed that some buyers took a spray can from inside the box and sprayed its contents onto their sleeves before inhaling the substance.

Suspecting that the substance being sold was chloroethane, officers proceeded to identify the two alleged sellers and searched the vehicle. Inside, they found 33 bottles of chloroethane, 6.7 grams of hashish, and €275 in cash of various denominations.

The two suspects, aged 23 and 26, were arrested for allegedly committing a public health offense by illegally selling medication. The case has been handed over to the Orihuela Court of Investigation, along with the confiscated items.

Chloroethane is a local anaesthetic used for pain relief after injuries or sports-related impacts. However, its misuse can cause total loss of consciousness and memory. When combined with alcohol, it can lead to respiratory coma, posing a serious risk to health.

The Civil Guard warns about the dangers of inhalant substance abuse and remains committed to combating drug trafficking and the illegal use of substances in entertainment venues.
