Whilst the residents have noticed a huge deterioration in the quality of the already poor service, with bins moved far away from where they once stood, fewer of them, and the total disappearance of the garden waste skips, for several months, Los Verdes have been focusing on the irregularities that are being detected in the urban cleaning service in the municipality.
“The defects that we are finding with respect to the breach of the specifications that the winning company accepted and signed at the time. This only continues to harm citizens, who after seeing how a service is privatised, with the consequent increase in its price, the streets of Torrevieja, unfortunately, continue to be an example of carelessness and how they should not be. In addition to being a clear example of how harmful a government in the majority of the PP is for Torrevieja”, commented Israel Muñoz, candidate for mayor for Los Verdes.
All kinds of irregularities have been reported to us since the winning company took over the service: delays in the installation of bins and containers that are still not distributed throughout the municipality. On the other hand, the age of the vehicles far exceeds that stipulated in the specifications, something that can be easily verified and that the company’s own workers have denounced, alleging that they are working with vehicles that are more than 20 years old. Losses are not covered, the personnel required by the specifications are not hired, etc. One more disaster of the management of the PP government that cannot continue to govern this city, even less in majority, after demonstrating unacceptable incompetence, they say.
“And as if all this were not enough, we want to underline the terrible situation of stress and uncertainty that workers are experiencing, which is reflected in the fact that 18% of them are on leave, due to the stress and pressure caused by the threat of being jobless. In other words, a contract that was sold as the great solution to Torrevejenses and that has emerged in a short time as a true disaster that has involved complaints from workers to the inspection for situations of harassment, a service for which all Torrevejenses pay and that is still not being duly complied with, not to mention the eco-park that has become a municipal landfill, with the terrible environmental damage that this entails”, continued Muñoz.
And to put the icing on this cake of inefficiency, irregularities and the third world labour situation, we have to talk about the fact that some Torrevieja workers have been detected working in Catral, without our knowing the reason.
“The most serious thing is that Eduardo Dolón and the delegate councillor have been aware of this unpresentable situation, since December, without putting any kind of solution or showing the slightest concern about it. Meanwhile, the usual, parties, smoke, “I’m going to”, many firecrackers and rockets to distract, but we don’t talk about what matters, we don’t worry, let alone find a solution. From Los Verdes, we are not going to allow this new violation of the citizens of our municipality, and we are going to go to the end of the matter so that what was promised to the citizens is fulfilled to the letter and so that they stop playing and speculating with public money, the only thing in which they do have an innate talent.
Our intention is to get the winning company to stop carrying out the service, at the cost of crushing its workers, in addition to guaranteeing that the law is complied with and that the service for which we are paying is offered in Torrevieja.
The irony is that the company are threatening people on behalf of the town hall if they do not comply with the rules, whilst, according to Los Verdes, not complying with their own contractual obligations.
