The contract for the new urban transport service is now agreed, although the public is unlikely to see its introduction for another 18 months, according to the acting mayor of Torrevieja, José Manuel Dolón (Los Verdes), and the councillor for Transport, Javier Manzanares (PSOE).
The main improvement that the contract includes, a proposal from the mayor himself, is that the 37 new buses included in the contract are all electric, albeit they will be rather more expensive. Dolón said that the move would be a major improvement, particularly when comparing the principle of sustainability against pollution by fossil fuels.
The planned annual fee amounts to 4,291,511 euros.
Javier Manzanares recalled that “when we entered the government in 2015 we found a service without a contract and with many deficiencies, so we immediately went to work. Now we have a transport system that will be the envy of many.”
