A band of intrepid members of the Gran Alacant and La Marina branch of the RBL in Spain, recently visited the Carmen del Campillo Arabian Teahouse in the late afternoon.
Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, but very close to the main road from Crevilente to Albertera, this tranquil oasis is like nothing we had ever seen before. A haven of tranquillity and shade.
Inside the decorative gates, there are exotic gardens illuminated by arabian lanterns as dusk approached, and a large winding property with a labyrinth of different furnished rooms, some with roaring log fires. There are peacocks roaming the grounds, piped Arabian music and a tepee on one of the terraces of the tea house.
The gardens are woven intricately throughout the house, with trees even poking out through the roof.
We rested our legs in the courtyard, with wonderfully coloured shrubs, vines, and ferns dangling all around us. There we partook of various teas and fruit smoothies, accompanied by nutty pastries dripping with honey.
The Gran Alacant & La Marina branch of the Royal British Legion, meets on the first Monday of each month at 6pm in Lounge D, Plaza Mayor, Gran Alacant. New members are always made most welcome, and remember you do NOT have to be ex-services to join us.
