Orihuela city will host a public emergency preparedness event in the city this Wednesday, featuring a large interactive training bus designed to promote self-protection and risk awareness among residents.

The initiative is part of a campaign by the Generalitat Valenciana to strengthen public readiness in emergency situations. The event will take place on April 22 at Glorieta Gabriel Miró, near Andrés Manjón school, within Orihuela city.

At the center of the event is a mobile training unit that expands into a 50-square-metre interactive space, offering hands-on activities and simulations related to emergency management. The programme forms part of the regional “Endavant” plan, launched following recent incidents across the Valencian Community to improve awareness of risks and response capabilities.

Cllr Valverde said the aim is to give residents practical guidance on how to respond in emergency situations, stressing that preparedness is not only the responsibility of emergency services but also of the general public themselves.

The bus will be open from 9:00 to 14:00 for school visits and from 16:00 to 19:00 for the general public. Inside, participants will be able to experience a simulated emergency control centre, use virtual reality tools to identify risks, and explore interactive displays on home safety and self-protection, alongside activities designed for schoolchildren.

Local officials noted that more than 2,000 students in the municipality have already taken part in similar training initiatives. Valverde welcomed the regional government’s support and encouraged residents to attend, emphasizing that even a short visit could prove valuable in a real emergency.
