Keratopigmentation, keratoconus and refractive and corneal surgery were the topics covered by the professor, who also participated in the 25th Anniversary of the Cornea Day of the Philippine Cornea Society
The 2024 Annual Convention of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology held in December in Manila, Philippines, featured Dr. Jorge Alió as a special guest.
The Professor of Ophthalmology and Honorary Researcher of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche also participated in the 25th Anniversary of Cornea Day organized by the Philippine Cornea Society.
At this congress, Jorge Alió was honoured for his extensive career and contribution in various fields of ophthalmology.
Prof. Alió took part in several sessions at the 25th Anniversary Symposium of the Philippine Cornea Society to discuss important topics such as therapeutic keratopigmentation, refractive surgery and the future of corneal surgery.
Thus, the first day was dedicated to the lecture ‘Therapeutic keratopigmentation: an opportunity for corneas with aesthetic problems in deformed eyes’ and to ‘Corneal grafting results: are we doing it right?
Subsequently, he shared the chairmanship of the conference ‘Refractive surgery after corneal grafting: results, complications and practical considerations. And later, he was able to develop the topic ‘Approaches to corneal stromal regeneration: the future of corneal surgery’.
On the second day, the main topic was ‘Refractive surgery in keratoconus’, an ocular pathology in which Jorge Alió is one of the world’s leading experts. This is thanks to his innovative corneal transplant techniques and advanced therapies with stem cells and regenerative surgery of the ocular surface.
It is worth remembering that Dr. Alió is ranked 12th of the 100 most influential and inspiring ophthalmologists in the world in ‘The Ophthalmologist Power List 2023’, being the only Spanish doctor present.
