The socialist Amparo Serrano was proclaimed Mayor of Callosa de Segura, following the resignation on August 20 of the former mayor, Manuel Martínez Sirvent who left office after just over a year, marked by the difficulties of a minority government since the beginning of the legislature.

The proclamation came after an agreement with UCÍN, a split from the PP, led by the former mayor of Callosa, Javier Pérez, with whom they will share the Mayor’s Office for a year and a half each until the end of the mandate. An agreement also supported by Esquerra Unida.

The five votes of the PSOE councillors, the three from UCÍN and the one from EU have served to obtain the majority, behind the eight councillors that PP and Vox had, who until now governed the municipality in a minority.

An agreement that was not possible a year ago, when Martínez Sirvent was proclaimed mayor as the list with the most votes, adding only the support of Vox, insufficient on the other hand to achieve an absolute majority.
