A kilo of hashish flew through the air as two drug traffickers tore through Orihuela at breakneck speed, lights off, with the Civil Guard on their tail. It was a real-life action movie.
The chase started around 9 p.m. on the N-340. Officers spotted a car driving in the dark and tried to stop it. The driver slammed the gas instead — four kilometres of high-speed terror through streets, intersections, and residential areas, forcing terrified drivers to dodge out of the way.
In a desperate move, the suspects threw a bag of drugs onto the roadside. Backup from the National Police joined the hunt, and finally, on a sharp curve, the car slowed just enough for officers to jump in and make the arrest.
The bag contained 98 pellets of hashish, weighing about one kilogram. The men, 30 and 37, were taken to the Callosa de Segura station. One already had a record for drug and traffic crimes. Both are now charged with drug trafficking. The driver faces an additional charge for reckless driving. Their car was impounded.
After appearing in court, they were released on bail, but police say the investigation continues to trace the drugs’ origin and possible links to local networks.
Authorities hailed the operation as a perfect example of Civil Guard and National Police teamwork in tackling nighttime drug trafficking on Alicante’s roads.
