The exhibition “SIGNO” arrives in Orihuela, offering a historical perspective on the city. Organized by the Department of Culture in collaboration with Festividades Orihuela, the exhibition explores the meaning and symbolism of the Oriol as a key element of the city’s identity, according to Anabel García, Councilor for Culture.

As part of the 25th anniversary of Orihuela’s Medieval Market, the temporary exhibition “SIGNO” has been designed by the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art of Orihuela. Through informative panels, historical documents, and artworks from the Cathedral Archive and the Diocesan Museum, visitors will gain insight into the history and symbolism of the Oriol, which serves as an emblem of the city.

The exhibition opens today, February 28, at the Episcopal Cloister of the Museum and will remain on display until July 2025, aligning with Orihuela’s Reconquest Festivities.

The collection includes historical artworks and documents spanning from the Middle Ages to the 18th century, featuring references to the legend of the Armengola, the city’s banner, and the books of privileges granted to Orihuela from 1265 during the period of colonization.

Councilor Anabel García emphasized that the exhibition aims to educate visitors on the origins, history, and significance of the Oriol in its medieval context, highlighting it as a fundamental symbol of Orihuela’s identity.
